Pasg Hapus! Happy Easter

Today we celebrated Easter with a lovely service at St Mary's Church followed by an Easter Egg hunt with a difference. All the children were given an egg and asked to write a positive affirmation to hide inside the egg. All the eggs were then hidden around the school garden for the children to find. The children were delighted to open their eggs and read the message inside. What a lovely way to show our value of compassion and to spread some joy and happiness. The children ended the hunt by enjoying some tasty buns in the garden and everyone took home a chocolate treat for taking part.

We are all looking forward to a break and are excited to be learning about the history of our school when we return for the Summer term.

Dydd Gwener 4 Ebrill 2025

Another busy week at Ysgol Nercwys with preparations for our Easter celebration in full swing. The children were busy baking Jam tarts in the infants whilst the juniors indulged in Hot chocolate for their Star in the Jar!

We are very proud of Dosbarth Dewi as we have been working very hard on expanding our Welsh Vocabulary. We have been actively working on daily communication skills and even using the fun from our Easter Bingo for inspiration to create Welsh word Bingo. In Maths, inspired by our Mantle of Rocket to Mars, pupils have been identifying properties of various shapes and then applying their knowledge into the real-world context of understanding why windows are quadrilaterals.

Finally, there's music in the air as the juniors have been learning the play the recorder. Be on the look out very soon for some musical introductions to our services.

Meet the Goats Day!

Dydd Iau, 20 Mawrth

Mrs Davies brought her goats to Nercwys school this week for the children to feed and pet. All the children (and staff)  had a fantastic time meeting Mabel and Heidi. The children learnt lots of interesting facts about goats and enjoyed taking care of them throughout the morning demonstrating our value of compassion. Reverend Kathy couldn't resist popping along to meet Heidi and Mabel too.  Nercwys children are huge animal lovers and it brought lots of smiles to everyone's faces, children and adults alike!

This week the pupils have celebrated World Book Day. As well as enjoying the festivities by wearing costumes representing their favourite characters we have been reading stories, sharing wonderful writing and poetry. We have also discussed how World book day is a grand celebration for all to enjoy. It has been a great pleasure to see so many inspirational characters.

We are so proud of all our lovely pupils this week, with all their efforts towards our Nantlwys Eisteddfod. Children created a piece of 3D art work based on the artist Luned Parri and its lovely to see how each one is different and tells a tale of the character!  Children were given a wooden spoon to take home and decorate on a Welsh theme, these were amazing from dragons, Welsh ladies and daffodils. They  recited Welsh poems as well as  sing  'Sosban Fach and 'Dau gi bach' with various actions. It was truly a wonderful Welsh eisteddfod. Parents were eager to come and look at all these fantastic eisteddfod pieces. Da iwan pawb!

Welcome back!

The pupils have bad a busy back to school week and we have enjoyed hearing the stories of Half Term antics and costume parties galore! We have had an amusing day on Wednesday with Mrs Styles taking the school outdoor learning but not before a short 'show' in which the pupils enjoyed "Firework Splat!" - unfortunately resulting in cream splats all over the classroom and Mrs Styles' jumper! Outdoor learning consisted of some very creative Autumn Wreaths made by pupils and, in Dosbarth Dewi this week, we have introduced the class to our AI cartoon simulator in which we have been transforming our story creations into animated characters.

Have a great Weekend!

Dosbarth Dewi has had a very artistic week! Powering through with our rainforest theme we have been designing and creating our rainforest dioramas. The children have been sourcing various materials to create layers and animals depicting their visions. We have also been studying Henri Rousseau and producing some beautiful rainforest oil pictures.

In other news the school is proud to announce that we donated 35.5kg of food for the local food bank after a very successful harvest festival. We have had some wonderful feedback from parents and governors of how much they enjoyed our multilingual creative service and are eagerly looking forward to Christmas for our next service.

Da Iawn Pawb!

The children have been learning the true meaning of Harvest and why it is important to Christians and the community.  They have been making Harvest Baskets for the Harvest service at Nercwys Church. What amazing leaflets the children have created about hedgehogs facts, they have used their first draft to then create a digital one using J2E write. They have been using the outdoor number square to understand 1 more 1 less and 10 more 10 less, Mr Frog was exhausted with all the jumping about from the story 'One Winters Day'! They problem solved on how  to build the hedgehog a shelter. The mobile library visited our school and the children were eager to choose a special book.

Dosbarth Disglair has been a very busy classroom this week. The main focus has been to find facts about hedgehogs as well as  thinking about hedgehog adjectives which will help years one and two when they begin create their fact sheets. The Small Parts Station has been a great success with lots of creations being made and shared with peers. The class have been focusing on their number facts, investigating  different ways to make 5, 10, 20 and 100 and even looked at place value up to the thousands! We are using our Welsh in the classroom and have begun learning our colours so that we can ask for afal coch neu gwyrdd a banana melyn; amser snac.

Croeso yn ol! Welcome back.

It has been lovely to see everyone back at St Mary’s Nercwys school this week. The children have all settled in well to their new routines and classes.

Over the Summer holidays, staff have been busy preparing the classrooms, a big diolch goes to members of the Mold and Buckley Roundtable who have painted the junior classroom and children’s cloakroom. Both Mrs Gunes and Mrs Styles are highly creative teachers and have planned some exciting learning opportunities for both classes. This year we are looking forward to working together more on some whole school projects.

On Friday, Reverend Kathy came to see us and held an assembly to welcome everyone back together. The children in Dosbarth Disglair have been exploring and learning about hedgehogs and have read the story ‘One Winter’s Day’ as part of their topic. Dosbarth Dewi have already done their first Science experiment, having expressed a wish for more Science lessons last term.

We welcomed parents into school on Friday to meet the teachers and see the new classrooms. It was lovely to hear the children sharing what they had been learning about with so much enthusiasm.

From next week, I will be handing the responsibility of the Blog over to the children. They are excited to share their weekly news with everyone themselves. I look forward to reading the Blog next week.

And just like that it’s the end of another year. I would like to say a big thank you to all the children for a fantastic year. They have all worked so hard and make St Mary’s Nercwys a fantastic place to be.

This week our year 6 children visited London for a 3 day residential trip. They had a wonderful time and were able to experience so many of the sites and sounds of the city. Our children also impressed the gift shop owner at the Tower of London with their manners, in fact she was so impressed that she gave them all a free pencil in appreciation. Da iawn pawb!

Dosbarth Disglair have enjoyed having Mrs Gunes and Mrs Allen back in school this week. They have both been very busy preparing for September. Mrs Styles was in Dosbarth Dewi this week. The children had great fun designing their own theme parks and getting creative.

And finally…

May each day of your summer holiday be a wide-open page, waiting to be filled with new friends, unexpected adventures, and stories of sunshine.

This week we started by celebrating our Blwyddyn 6. We all went to the church for the leavers service. Their performance of the poem summed up their work as a group and it was amazing. I was really proud of them all. It was lovely to hear all the memories of their time at St Mary’s school.

On Monday the children also had a visitor from Mold Library who introduced a new summer reading incentive called ' Creftwr Campus'.  To take part the children need to read any 6 books over the summer holidays. We are looking forward to September when we can show the certificates during assembly.

What a surprise this week when we got to Nannerch for our fun day. Nannerch had planned an amazing day, which included the giant inflatables and a lot of laughs and giggles. Special thanks to the children from Dosbarth Nantddraig who planned glitter tattoos, face paints and slime making. We had very tired children at the end of the day full of tales to share with parents and friends.

Dosbarth Disglair said goodbye and thank you to Miss Murray and a welcome back to Mrs Gunes. They have discussed their new topic ready for September and shared lots of ideas and suggestions. They are already looking forward to September.

On Thursday, Dosbarth Dewi were treated to a cricket session from Aura. The rain didn't put us off and it was brilliant to see all the cricket skills being developed. Da iawn pawb!

What a busy week we've had in school this week. On Monday afternoon Dosbarth Dewi visited the church. They had a lovely time learning about the different aspects of the church. The children took part in hands on craft activities all about stained glass windows, prayers, baptism and more.

On Tuesday Mrs Styles visited and spent the day in Dosbarth Dewi ready for September. We had another visit from the library van and the children enjoyed choosing new books to read and share with each other.

On Thursday the whole school had a visit from the 'Repair cafe' The children learnt all about the importance of reducing and reusing to become ethical informed citizens.

On Friday we held a very successful summer fayre. A big thank you to the PTA for organising the event. The children also did a fantastic job of running their own stalls. It was lovely to see so many families attending including past and future pupils. Thank you to all families who supported the event with their generous donations.

Mae hi’n boeth! It is hot!

This week we held a very successful sports day. Well done to all the children who made it such a fantastic event. All children did their best in the events and were good sports, cheering each other on, da iawn! A big thank you to Newydd for providing the 'Hydration Station' which proved very popular and much needed in the heat! Also to Mrs Fowles for organising the ice cream van to attend, a perfect end to a perfect afternoon.

There was much excitement on Thursday when we held our moving up day. The children welcomed the new children into their classes with open hearts. It was lovely to have Mrs Styles with us for the day and to hear and see the excitement and enthusiasm coming from the classroom. We are so very lucky that St Mary’s is a small school and that our children already know each other so well. Our new Year 3’s took this next step in their stride and already seem quite at home in their new classroom.

This week the children have had lots of fun in St Mary's Nercwys school. In Maths, Dosbarth Disglair have been focusing on addition and subtraction word problems. This week in the outdoors the children did scavenger hunt and looked for all different objects whilst building on their team work skills. We all had a wonderful time singing at the Jambori on Tuesday. The children were excellent. It was lovely to see Mrs Meaden there too.

The whole school had a exciting afternoon on Thursday with STEM science. We made lava lamps and our own edible petri dishes. The children had great fun dressing up as mini scientists too.

This week in Dosbarth Dewi the children have been practising for Sport's Day. The class are amazing at supporting each other and they are trying their hardest to practice for their events. We can't wait to see you next week at Sport's Day and fingers crossed for a sunny day.

The children have been taking mathematics outside this week to learn more about shape. They've shown what they remember about 2-D shapes and used bamboo canes to create 3-D shapes. Staff were really impressed by the teamwork between groups! Da iawn pawb!

This week we were under starters orders as the children in Dosbarth Dewi took part in the Brownlee Foundation Triathlon. All the children had a fantastic time, swimming, cycling and running. They all came back to school with huge smiles and medals for taking part.

This week the library van visited school. This is a great opportunity for all children to choose a book to read and take home. The van will come every 3 weeks and we hope that this will help to further develop a love of reading in our children.

PC Mark visited years 2 and 6 on Monday to talk to the children about keeping safe. We always learn so much from these sessions.

We have been busy practising for sports day, when the weather allows! The children have also started planning and preparing for the summer fair to be held on July 5th.

Finally we finished our week with another fabulous Open the Book assembly. These always provide us with opportunities to think and reflect on our own values, faith and beliefs.

Mrs Taylor

This week has been so busy in Dosbarth Dewi! I've been immensely proud of the whole class and I'm sure they're tired and ready for the weekend.

We were so lucky to take part in the Brownlee Foundation Triathlon. It was brilliant to see all the children's smiling faces as they swam, cycled and ran around Mold Alun School's campus. It takes amazing skill and bravery to hop straight out of a swimming pool and on to a bike whilst lots of the volunteers supporting cheered them on. Da iawn pawb!

We have been looking at telling the time this week in Dosbarth Dewi and we decided to take our learning outside. I'm sure you saw our amazing clocks on the school yard. The children drew the clocks and labelled them with hours, minutes and the 24-hour clock. It was amazing to see their knowledge of time coming through in a creative way.

Croeso yn ol! Welcome back.

This week, in assembly, we have been talking about hope and what hope means to us. We’ve been trying to use hope in our everyday interactions with each other. We have also started to work towards a whole school reward. Using the children’s suggestions, we have set up a rewards jar and are now earning pompoms for ‘above and beyond’ behaviour and effort. We already have lots in the jar!

Dosbarth Disglair have been typing up their fabulous stories and started to write a blurb for them. In Maths they have had a focus on addition. In P.E this week, the children have been practising for sports day. This week the children worked really hard with Mrs James to dig out the weeds and plant some sweetcorn and leeks. We hope they grow!

Dosbarth Dewi have had a fantastic trip to Talacre Beach today. On Wednesday they enjoyed extending their maths knowledge about time whilst listening to ‘Rock around the clock’ playing. What fun! The children have been heavily involved in planning for sports day, suggesting events and practising their skills.

This week has also been a week of greetings and partings. We welcomed Mrs White to the staff team. Mrs White will be working in classes whilst Mrs Allen is away learning Welsh.

We also said a farewell to Mrs James on Wednesday. Mrs James has been a huge part of the staff team for the past 15 years. We know she will keep in touch and we hope to see her soon.

On Monday we celebrated Pentecost in assembly and learnt all about this special time in the Church year. Dosbarth Dewi had a Dodgeball session with Michelle from Aura sports. They played brilliantly. I was so impressed with their catching and dodging skills.

In our Tuesday staff meeting, the teachers all learnt how to safely light fires. We are looking forward to having campfires in our outdoor learning sessions soon!

The foundation phase children enjoyed their trip to Wepre Park on Wednesday. Despite the wet weather! I spent the morning with Nursery learning all about bees. We had great fun learning how bees transfer pollen and nectar and developing our fine motor skills too.

Dosbarth Dewi had lots of fun on Wednesday building the tallest structure from spaghetti and marshmallows. The children certainly used their perseverance skills in that lesson!

On Thursday Year 3 to Year 6 had an online workshop with Stephen Pass, author. We hope that this helped to inspire the children to write their own stories.

It’s been another busy half term. Next half term will be even busier with more school trips, sports days and summer fairs. We will also prepare to say goodbye to our Year 6 children.

We have lots of plans in place for some exciting changes for September. More information coming soon!

Have a lovely half term and we will see you all when school reopens on Monday 3rd June.

Mrs Taylor

Dosbarth Dewi

This week in Dosbarth Dewi we were treated to a Dodgeball masterclass from Michelle from Aura. It was fantastic to hear the collaboration between learners and the skills develop through the session. I know Michelle is keen to see the children at Dodgeball Club at Mold Leisure Centre. Although there isn't a session this coming Monday due to the Bank Holiday.

Wednesday was National Numeracy Day: to celebrate the class worked in teams with a brief 'Can you create the tallest and sturdiest tower?'. Each group had spaghetti sticks and marshmallows and had to use these to build their towers. It was phenomenal to hear the problem-solving that was happening between groups. There were many different approaches, mostly linked to shapes but also in how the marshmallows were used. Triangles appeared to be the strongest and sturdiest shape.

We were so lucky to have author of Madge the Mermaid, Stephen Pass, provide our class with a workshop. He recited some of his poems, our favourite was his one about bees where we had to make buzzing noises. He taught us all about shorthand and how journalists and secretaries use this to write more works in a minute. We found it a little tricky when we joined up our shorthand letters but found it great fun writing some secret messages.

Dosbarth Disglair

This week in literacy, we continued with our fabulous stories, looking at exciting blurbs. We have continued looking at the human body and making our 3D model. We all completed the salty potato experiment, which allowed us to investigate what too much salt does to our organs. Despite the rainy weather, we all had a fabulous day out on Wednesday at Wepre park and enjoyed learning about the creatures in the ponds and the seasons.

This week the children enjoyed their last swimming lesson. I am so proud of how well the children have progressed with their confidence and swimming skills. Miss Roberts spent the day at Nercwys on Wednesday and enjoyed teaching Dosbarth Dewi.

All classes have been preparing for sports day, we are so lucky to have such wonderful outside space at school.

In assembly we started to read the story called ‘Oscar’s Bad Day’. As part of Mental Health Awareness week. We hope that this will help us to see things from other people’s perspective and think more deeply about our reactions to other people’s behaviours. This also fits in with our value of compassion.

On Wednesday I attended a meeting of church school leaders with Mrs Downes. It was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas with other church schools in our diocese.

Thank you to all those who donated cakes for our fundraising bake sale. The proceeds will be split between school and the Welsh Air Ambulance.

This week Dosbarth Dewi have been busy writing nature poems. They've been using their similes from outdoor learning last week to put them in to a poem about the nature within Nercwys. The similes the class have used have focused on the colours of nature and the class have added personification to show how some objects in our natural world move. I'm impressed by their efforts and can't wait to read their final poems.

Unfortunately, our session with Aura was postponed on Monday. We took the opportunity to go and practice our Rounders skills on the field. The class have really been developing their batting and fielding skills. There were a few powerful hits that went all the way across the field. The teamwork for fielding was amazing; the children communicated and were able to get some of the class out with some fantastic tactics.

It's been a short but fun filled week this week in school. The children have enjoyed being outdoors more and enjoying the sunshine. This week we had another fun open the book assembly. We have also discussed rewards in assembly for good behaviour. We agreed that 'above and beyond' behaviour deserves to be recognised. Keep an eye out for special notes home soon!

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our Bake Sale fundraiser next Friday. The proceeds of this event will be shared between school and Welsh Air Ambulance charity. Fingers crossed for sunshine!

This week in Dosbarth Dewi we have been really lucky to have a fun session from Aura. Will came to teach us rounders skills; he showed us the batting tee to improve our batting. It was amazing to see the team work the class showed when they were fielding and batting.

Our Euro's challenge is going really well. I would like to say a big thank you to the whole school community. The children have been completing extra miles at home and I'm proud of the whole school for their efforts. We have received our certificates to say we have reached: Scotland; England; Belgium and The Netherlands. Travelling a total of 809 miles so far! The next stop is Denmark.

Dosbarth Disglair

This week in Literacy we have been continuing with our stories and made some colourful front covers for them. In Maths we have continued to look at length and height, measuring in centimetres and metres. In P.E we have made the most of the lovely weather and played rounders in the field. We have been looking at how nests are built and in outdoor learning we made nests for our eggs and made some beautiful butterflies to hang around the garden.

We finally have some sunshine and warmth! What a difference it makes to everyone. It’s been lovely to see the children enjoying being outside more.

On Tuesday we welcomed some of our new Nursery and Reception children to school to take part in Wellies in the Woods. They had a lovely story, followed by lots of fun activities in the garden area. There was digging, hunting, paining and sticking and lots of playing too. We are looking forward to them joining us soon.

Dosbarth Dewi continue with their swimming lessons. Even though the water was very cold this week they still had a great time. It’s lovely to hear how the children are progressing each week and getting braver each time.

Mrs Allen has been running book club and building club. I joined building club and was surprised at how tricky the activity was. I was even more impressed with how the children supported each other to complete the task by saying things like, ‘I believe in you’ and ‘I know you can do it’. Of course, with great perseverance and by working together they achieved the build and there were huge smiles at the end.

I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.

This week in language we have focused on planning our stories using a story mountain, so we are ready to draft them next week. In maths we have been looking at length and height. We have enjoyed measuring each other and different objects in centimetres. We enjoyed our P.E lesson on the field this week with lots of small races, which led us to thinking about our heart beat investigation.

On Thursday, in outdoor learning we designed our dream garden and painted our map to school, thinking of all the nature we pass on our way.

Is it Friday already? What a quick week it's been. This week I had the pleasure of accompanying our Year 3 children to William Aston Hall in Wrexham. There they had the wonderful opportunity to play their violins alongside other children from Flintshire schools and with the BBC Now orchestra. It was very moving to hear and see all the children playing along together. I'm sure it's an experience that they will never forget.

In assembly this week, we welcomed Mrs Yeardley and Reverand Kathy back into school for another fantastic Open the Book. The children always enjoy the opportunity to take part in these special stories.

We held a full Governors meeting on Thursday at Nannerch school where we discussed the developments with our behaviour policy. We look forward to welcoming some of our Governors into school over the coming weeks to see all our hard work.

It’s been another busy and fun filled week in school. The children have started work on their new topics focused on health and wellbeing. They have started to take part in the daily mile and are enjoying the benefits of the exercise. The older children are using their maths skills to independently track their miles too.

In assembly this week we continued our discussions about our new rules. The children voted and agreed to keep the new rules which are; to learn, to be safe, to listen and to be respectful.

On Monday I spent the afternoon with Dosbarth Dewi. We explored fictitious scenarios through drama and role play. The children showed great compassion to characters in our story and came up with many solutions to help our character in need. Da iawn pawb!

We are looking forward to welcoming new nursery and reception children to our Wellies in the Woods session on Tuesday 30th April at 1.30. We can’t guarantee dry weather but we can guarantee a warm welcome and lots of fun!  Any families looking for a school place are very welcome to join us.

This week in literacy we have been focusing on the story Oliver’s Vegetables and started to use some adjectives to describe his vegetable patch. In maths we have been looking at weighing objects in grams. We have been looking at the artist Henri Matisse and completed some lovely art work in the style of his. We had a gorgeous day outside on Thursday, where we completed a mini beast scavenger hunt and we made some beautiful paintings using lots of different nature resources such as shells, pine cones and bark.

Dosbarth Dewi

This week in Dosbarth Dewi we have introduced the Euro 2024 Sports Challenge from Aura. Our mission is to be as active as we can to cover the miles to all the countries in the European Championship. This week as a class we've covered 45.5 miles which is extremely impressive. The class have worked extremely hard racking up the miles and I can't wait to see how many we get next week. This challenge fits in perfectly with our Health and Wellbeing topic.

Swimming this week was amazing. I am so proud of the class and how they are being fantastic role models for Nercwys when we visit the Alun School. The class have been showing the value of perseverance when listening to instructions and have been developing their swimming techniques in the pool. My favourite part has been the smiles from all the class after the session, which show just how much they enjoy their swimming lessons.

Croeso yn ol, welcome back!

It was a wet start to the new term this week but thankfully the sun is shining today as I write this blog.

There have been some exciting activities happening around school this week. On Tuesday Dosbarth Dewi started swimming lessons and all children had a fantastic time. The all gave it their best effort and had excellent manners and behaviour throughout. Well done to those children who demonstrated perseverance and hope and faced their fears.

The Cat's Protection team visited all children on Wednesday. The children really enjoyed the visit. PC Mark visited school on Friday to talk to the children about keeping safe.

Mrs Allen began her book club this week and it was a huge success! The children can't wait for the next time.

Pasg Hapus!

What a fantastic and fun filled week we've had this week. There have been lots of Easter crafts and Easter themed activities happening this week. This week was British sign language week, the children have enjoyed learning to sign and have been practising around school. Da iawn pawb.

On Wednesday afternoon we all visited St Mary's Church to celebrate Easter. The children delivered an amazing Easter service which involved singing, poetry and prayers.  The children also took part in a re-telling of the Easter story. We were all amazed at Reverand Kathy's lego display of Easter Week. We love lego.

In assembly this week, we talked about children's rights and came up with 4 new school rules to protect our rights.

Congratulations to Miss Roberts who has now been appointed as the permanent Deputy Headteacher of the Nantlwys Federation!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter break and I look forward to seeing everyone back in school for the Summer term.

Mrs Taylor

This week is British Sign Language week. We took part in an online lesson from the British Deaf Association.

It was interesting learning all the greetings and signs for animals. We even learnt to finger spell our names and our learning partners names.

We were very lucky to have a session from St. John's ambulance. Sophie came and taught us all CPR and how to use a choking vest. We looked at defibrillators too and we all had a turn at being put in the recovery position. It was a fantastic session and we all learnt some amazing skills for life.

Spring is in the air this week with lots of colourful activities happening around school. We waved goodbye to our Robin Wood group on Wednesday. It's been very quiet without them in school but the children have still had lots of fun. There's been lots of different playground resources out this week, we will see which games are the most popular and plan to set up a rota of fun games. The staff have particularly liked the space hoppers! On Friday we talked about Red Nose Day and how charities raise money for those in need. I'm sure the children who went on the residential trip will sleep well tonight. Many thanks to Mrs Foster and Miss Roberts for taking the children on this trip and looking after them all so well.

Mrs Taylor

Wow what can I say about Robinwood; it's been amazing!

I am so proud of each child that came with us!

All of the children have pushed themselves out of their comfort zones this week and it's been fantastic to do this with our friends from Nannerch and Miss Roberts.

We had an instructor called Connah, who helped us in all the activities, especially in piranha pool where he locked up the piranhas before we entered (phew). Our favourite activities were the Giant Swing and zip wire. Everyone had a go and we did awesome dance moves on the zip wire.

We had an action packed three days and we all can’t wait for our next adventure.

This week has passed by really quickly with lots of exciting activities happening. It was lovely to welcome parents to our parents evening on Monday and Tuesday this week.

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day. As a passionate reader myself, this is always one of my favourite days of the year. It was lovely for the children to share their love of reading. The book swap was a great success with everyone having the opportunity to take home a new book to read. All children have also been provided with book tokens to spend on discounted books.

This week, all children have been discussing their rights and behaviour in school. Staff listened carefully to the children’s ideas and will now work on these suggestions to build our new positive behaviour policy.

We were all excited to welcome Mr Hills back to school for the day on Wednesday, he really enjoyed teaching Dosbarth Dewi for the day.

On Friday we said our official goodbye to Mrs John with a special assembly at Nannerch school. The children singed a special card for Mrs John which was presented to her during the assembly.

Next week we will be sending some of our children off on their 3 day trip to Robin Wood so we expect school to be a little bit quieter without them! We can’t wait to hear all about it when they return next Friday.

This week we've been busy learning about companion planting in our outdoor learning and how this works as a natural pest control. In the garden we planted carrots and parsnips with onions, chives and spring onions. We've got our fingers crossed that this keeps insects away from our carrots this year.

The class have been learning about micro:bits today. They've enjoyed learning how to use block coding to programme the micro:bits. We can't wait to build our skills and see all the amazing things they can do.

This week in Literacy we have been writing our letters back to the crayons to try and persuade them to quit their job. In maths we have continued with multiplication and word problems. We made rubber band racer cards and tested them out at the beginning of the week. On Thursday we had a fabulous day dressed up and wrote our own book review and made some bookmarks.

This week we have been celebrating everything Welsh and wonderful Wales. Today we held our Eisteddfod. It was bendigedig to see Mrs Meaden in school again who came to judge our competition entries and take part in our Eisteddfod service. She was very impressed with everyone's work, da iawn pawb.

I had a treat on Wednesday, working with Dosbarth Dewi who are helping to make our new entrance foyer bright and welcoming. It was great to see the children thinking hard about our school values and how to show these in action in photographs. We welcomed parents and families into school today to celebrate and share our fantastic Welsh week work.

This week we have been focusing on grouping in maths. In Language we have been looking at the book ‘The day the crayons quit’ and have enjoyed reading the funny letters in this book and have been planning to write a response back. We have continued practising our ball skills outdoors. On Thursday we enjoyed planting different trees in the nature areas. We have all been very creative this week and made some beautiful daffodil pictures for the Eisteddfod as well as learning the poem ‘Dysgu Cyfi’.

It was a short week this week as we welcomed everyone back from half term. The children have been thinking about their health and well-being this week by practising yoga and talking about feelings. We had another visit from Open the Book where we discussed our value of trust and being ready for change.

On Friday we said goodbye and good luck to Miss Holland who finished her final PGCE placement with us. We wish her good luck in her future career path.

Next week we will celebrate cynefin in our Welsh week. I have already seen some fantastic Welsh castles arriving in school. We look forward to sharing our work with families next week.

This week we have practised our ball skills of throwing, catching, kicking and dribbling and related this to our science topic on forces. In Language we have been writing a description of our own toy, remembering to use lots of adjectives and punctuation. In Maths we have continued our work on fractions. We've really enjoyed building and experimenting with the magnets this week. We were sad to say goodbye to Miss Holland and hope that she will come back soon and visit us soon.

This week we’ve been thinking about positivity linked to our value of perseverance. We thought about positive messages to fill a ‘Cup of positivity’. The class also did some yoga to develop skills to help us with our emotions.

We also went on a nature walk to look at the trees we planted last year. It was great to see all the children’s hard work from last year. We can’t wait to see if the fruit trees provide us with some pears.

And just like that it was the end of half term!

The children had a lovely day on Wednesday making and taste testing pancakes, unfortunately I was too late and missed out! The threat of snow stopped play on Thursday but we were back open again on Friday. It's been a very short but busy half term. We are looking forward to celebrating wonderful Wales with our Eisteddfod after half term.

I would like to thank all families and staff for making me feel so welcome in my first half term at school.

Have a lovely half term break and we look forward to seeing pupils back on Tuesday 20th. School is closed for staff training on Monday 19th.

It's the end of another fantastic week in Nercwys school. Today we had another visit from Open the Book and enjoyed a very interesting story. This week in assembly we started the story of Joseph and thought about what was fair and unfair. I had a very enjoyable afternoon in Dosbarth Disglair on Wednesday, we investigated floating and sinking and how far a car could travel along different surfaces. Today Dosbarth Dewi enjoyed a fun sports session with Will from Aura. Everyone was very tired out at the end of the afternoon!

This week we have been writing letters to Digger the Dog who came to visit. We created our own tally charts and bar graphs about our favourite toys. We made the best of the windy weather by making our own kites. We have enjoyed buying and selling in the toy shop area and learning about Andy Warhol in art.

It's been another busy week at school. The children are now in full flow and enjoying their new topics. This week in assembly we talked about the importance of practicing our talents so that they grow and get stronger. I enjoyed finding out more about the children's talents and what they had been doing over the weekend. Blwyddyn 3 have enjoyed their violin lesson today and Dosbarth Dewi took part in the Big Bird Watch. It's been lovely to see the sun today. Long may it continue!

Dosbarth Dewi have been working hard learning the skills of hockey. We’ve learnt to hold the hockey sticks and use them to control a ball; we also managed to play a few games too.

This weekend is the RSPB Big Bird Watch. We had an amazing time in the garden looking and counting all the different birds we can see. We’ve put this data into graphs to show which were the most frequent in our school grounds.

Mae hi’n rhewi – it is freezing.

We had a very frosty start to the week this week. We all had to huddle together on Tuesday as it was very cold and the heating was broken! Luckily it was soon fixed and warm again. The children have all settled back into their normal routines and Miss Holland has started her placement with Dosbarth Disglair.

In assembly this week we talked about our talents and how we should practice our talents and share them with others. PC Mark came to talk to us on Friday about who to contact in an emergency, internet safety and bullying. Thank you to those parents who came after school on Monday to spread the bark chippings around the new play tower.

This week Dosbarth Dewi have been looking at instruction writing, we've been looking at instructions of how to make pancakes ready for Shrove Tuesday. We've used our knowledge of instructions in our outdoor learning to think of a recipe for our garden. We were so lucky we've had snow this week because the garden looked magical.

We've had a visit from PC Mark this week who has spoken to the children about bullying, particularly focusing on Cyber Bullying. He has given them tips to help them in future situations.

This week we have enjoyed finding out more about toys and games. We really liked playing some new games such as battleships, snakes and ladders and snap. We learnt all about taking turns and having fun. Nursery and Reception children listened to the story of Kippers Toy Box and made their own sock thing. We've also been working hard to re-tell the creation story using pictures and key words. We had great fun learning to move like a puppet in P.E.

It's been a lovely first week back at St Mary's Nercwys. Thank you to to all the children, staff and parents for making me feel so welcome.

On Tuesday I held an assembly and shared some information about myself. Ask the children to tell you about my secret talent! We also had a visit from Mrs John, to wish us a happy new year. It is always lovely to see her.

On Wednesday we had our new canopy installed, the children are looking forward to using this to support their learning outdoors. The children have also decided how and when they will be using the new play equipment to ensure it is fair for everyone. Da iawn pawb.

There has been lots of new and exciting changes this week at school. I'm sure all staff and children are ready for a restful weekend after a busy first week back in school.

This week we have started our new topic all about toys and games. Mrs Gunes brought in some of her old toys for us to see. We enjoyed talking and writing about our Christmas holidays and the toys and games that we had for Christmas. We also had fun using the play equipment for the first time.

We've had a fantastic first week back and can't wait to use the play equipment again next week.

This week Dosbarth Dewi have enjoyed our time outdoors. We've been getting the garden ready for this Spring. We emptied out the vegetable beds, which meant we got some carrots to feast on at play time. We made some decisions about this years beds and we're hoping to plant some fruit bushes ready for snack in the Summer. Delicious!
